I just posted here: http://thedhip.myblogsite.com/entry14.html#body
In case you don't want to click on that link, it says this:
Wow. It is Sunday Afternoon. It is September 12th. Im struggling. I am thinking about lots of things, but mostly it is the concept of achieving your full potential in life. It is a daunting thing, because by its very nature it means working hard and accomplishing things.
But an ideal life also has balance, periods of hard work followed by periods of reward and relaxation. Finding that balance is crucial.
Im sitting here looking around my apartment. Bottom line is I just have way too much stuff, way too much clutter. I think some people just instinctively know how to keep a place clean: they are really good at saying no to new things coming into their house, and they deal with small messes early before they become a big mess you have to attack later. Sometimes its little things, like books or magazines I accumulate thinking I want to read them… but never finding the time to read everything that comes my way. Or its bills, receipts, paper work that in theory I should have on hand in case I get audited or something of that sort… but I can’t say I have discovered a more elegant filing system than papers in folders in boxes.
But I know I love the feeling of walking in a clean, orderly residence. I love the feeling of know that I don’t have too much stuff, that If I wanted to move it would be easy. But getting to these places seems to be a struggle.
Hoffman has really hit onto something with his idea that working out is the easy part; and it really is. He and I share the same problem of getting easily distracted and struggling to find motivation. Once we are in the middle of a workout, our competitive streaks kick in, and we feel the addictive flow of endorphins. But actually having our lives organized enough to make sure the workout happens every day, not getting distracted and just getting started, that is the challenge.
Hoffman has also stumbled onto another nugget of knowledge. Being accountable helps. I have been able to make my workouts a priority because I know I am in this with Hoffman, and pure and simple I don’t want to let down my teammate. And this blog actually helps too: By undertaking the DHIP, we have basically decided to battle our demons. By writing here, it makes us feel like we have fan support, and everyone knows battles are much easier to win when you have the crowd on your side.
And so we push on.
What is the ideal life to live? Well that is definitely a question better suited for a much longer discussion. But I can say this: Physical Fitness, Healthy Eating, clean living space, organized lifestyles, working hard to get better and gain skills, and finding the right balance of relaxation is a pretty good starting point.
So I must get up from this computer and do my best, and really push hard to clean and de-clutter my apartment. And tomorrow I need to take my workouts up to the next intensity level. It is time to bring it.
